Labour Group Slams Alliance

Allerdale's Borough Council's Labour Group Leader, Alan Smith, has slammed the ruling Conservative Alliance for stifling debate in the Council chamber. Not only have the Alliance stopped sending minutes of committees to the full council but they now hide behind standing orders when they are challenged.

At a recent motion of no confidence the Alliance were unable to say anything positive about their administration to date. The Alliance moved that the vote be held without any discussion and employed a three line whip to ensure it was supported.

Cllr Alan Smith said,

"I am amazed that they didn't mount any form of defence of their administration. It is obviously a case of how do you defend the indefensible."
